By Daniel Baldwin. Written for Bassoon, Horn, and Cello. Composed in three movements. The first movement is a rhapsodic story of danger, heroism, and the triumph of good in a dark world. It begins ominously, but soon makes a dramatic turn with a heroic succession of sonorous block chords that ultimately lead to a return of the opening material in a major key. The second movement is a tender and passionate love ballade that alternates moments of love, happiness, and hope with moments of melancholy. The finale is a bold and energetic dance movement that opens with a fiery Mexican bullfight that quickly transitions to a lively fugato Spanish dance. A Spanish guitar like cello solo and a return of the introductory bullfight lead to an exhilarating conclusion. Neoteric Suite was commissioned by the Neoteric Trio of Southern Illinois University and premiered by them at SIU on November 28, 2005.
